[The British national bibliography / Annual volume ] ; The British national bibliography : BNB. Annual volume. 1991, Vol. 1. Classified sequence

The British National Bibliography was established in 1950 to provide a comprehensive record of new books published in the United Kingdom. Produced by the British Library, the annual volume functions as a definitive bibliographic tool for librarians and researchers, cataloging the year's output through the Dewey Decimal Classification system. Its design prioritizes clarity and systematic categorization, reflecting its purpose as an essential archival reference for the scholarly community.

This 1991 volume represents a period when the bibliography served as a bridge between traditional print-based cataloging and the emerging digital databases of the late twentieth century. It was compiled by the British Library's Bibliographic Services Division, which sought to maintain meticulous standards of descriptive cataloging despite the growing volume of global publishing. The publication was widely regarded by academics and institutional curators as an indispensable authority for verifying British bibliographic data during that era.
