[The British national bibliography / Annual volume ] ; The British national bibliography : BNB. Annual volume. 1995, Vol.1. Classified sequence

The British National Bibliography (BNB) was established in 1950 by the Council of the British National Bibliography to serve as the definitive record of new books and periodicals published in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. Produced by the British Library, these annual volumes act as a comprehensive bibliographic registry, ensuring that the intellectual output of the nation is cataloged using the Dewey Decimal Classification system and the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, making them essential reference tools for librarians, researchers, and book trade professionals.

The 1995 annual volume was produced during a transitional era for the British Library, as the institution moved toward increasingly digital bibliographic management while maintaining the traditional printed format for archival and library reference use. The design and structure of this volume reflect the meticulous taxonomic standards set by the British Library’s bibliographic services division. It was curated to provide a structured, exhaustive survey of the year’s literature, prioritising functional clarity and systematic organization over stylistic flourish, and it remains a standard reference point for historical literary research from that period.
