The Complete Works of Percy Bysshe Shelley: Letters, 1812 to 1818, ed. by Roger Ingpen

This volume is part of a monumental editorial project initiated in the early 20th century, specifically the Julian Edition of The Complete Works of Percy Bysshe Shelley. Edited by Roger Ingpen, a dedicated scholar and bibliographer, the collection was designed to provide the most exhaustive and accurate scholarly treatment of Shelley's literary and personal correspondence available at the time. Ingpen worked to assemble scattered manuscripts, providing historical context for the poet's turbulent life between 1812 and 1818, a period encompassing his radical political development and his exile to Italy.

The physical design of the Julian Edition reflected the prestige of its content, typically presented in high-quality, durable bindings intended for academic libraries and private collectors. Ingpen's approach was widely lauded by the scholarly community for its meticulous transcription and chronological organization. By standardizing the letters, Ingpen helped solidify Shelley's posthumous reputation, allowing researchers to trace the poet's intellectual evolution with greater clarity than ever before.
