The English Catalogue of Books, Including the Original 'London' Catalogue: Giving in One Alphabet ... Books Issued in the United Kingdom ... 1801-1836

This volume serves as a comprehensive bibliographic reference, consolidating the legacy of the nineteenth-century London book trade. It was designed to bridge the gap in historical record-keeping by indexing the output of British publishers during a period of immense growth in the literary market. By merging the original London Catalogue with updated records, the work provides a structured, alphabetical survey of titles published between 1801 and 1836, an era previously defined by fragmented and scattered trade lists.

Robert Alexander Peddie, a noted bibliographer and expert in the field of printing history, was instrumental in the curation and assembly of this index. His approach focused on utility and systematic organization, aiming to create an essential tool for librarians and researchers navigating the prolific output of the early industrial era. Upon its release, the volume was recognized for its scholarly rigor, becoming a standard reference for those attempting to track the publication history of British literature and non-fiction during the pre-Victorian and early Victorian transition.
