Where it came from
The Grimoire of Usami, released in 2019, is an official Touhou Project supplementary volume written by ZUN, the creator of the long-running doujin game series. It serves as an in-universe collection of supernatural photography and occult records compiled by the character Sumireko Usami, bridging the gap between various Touhou narratives through a framing device that documents encounters with various anomalies and entities within the series' lore.
The volume features illustrations from various artists within the Touhou community, maintaining the series' tradition of collaborative creative output. ZUN crafted the text to expand upon the perspectives of the Sealing Club members, specifically focusing on the intersection of modern technology and the magical world. It was received by the fanbase as a significant piece of expanded world-building, valued for providing further context to the elusive Hifuu Club timeline and ZUN's broader metaphysical framework for the Touhou universe.
