The Hamlin Family: A Genealogy of James Hamlin of Barnstable Massachusetts, Eldest Son of James Hamlin, the Immigrant who Came from London, England and Settled in Barnstable, 1639-1902

Published in 1902 by Henry Franklin Andrews, this volume serves as a comprehensive genealogical record of the descendants of James Hamlin, an English immigrant who arrived in Barnstable, Massachusetts, in the 17th century. The work reflects the late 19th and early 20th-century trend of professional and amateur historians documenting the lineages of early colonial families, aiming to preserve ancestral histories for future generations before original records were lost to time.

Andrews meticulously compiled this record through extensive research into primary documents, including vital statistics, land records, and local archives. As an established genealogist, Andrews sought to provide an organized narrative of the Hamlin family’s expansion across the American frontier. Upon its release, it was well-received by regional historical societies and genealogical libraries as an essential reference for New England historical studies and remains a primary source for researchers tracing lines connected to the Barnstable settlers.
