The Man in the Iron Mask By Alexandre Dumas "Annotated Classic Version" (Historical & Romantic Novel)

The Man in the Iron Mask serves as the concluding portion of the Vicomte of Bragelonne, the final volume in Alexandre Dumas's expansive d'Artagnan Romances. Initially serialized in French newspapers between 1847 and 1850, the narrative was crafted during a period when Dumas was under immense pressure to produce high-volume serial fiction for a nineteenth-century public captivated by historical melodrama and political intrigue.

The annotated version specified here is a modern reissue designed for contemporary readers seeking contextual clarity. Such editions typically pair the original nineteenth-century text with scholarly footnotes that explain the transition from the absolute monarchy of Louis XIV to the various historical myths surrounding the actual prisoner held at the Bastille, aiming to bridge the gap between Dumas's romanticized fiction and the rigid realities of the Bourbon court.
