The Miscellaneous Works of the Rev. Matthew Henry: Containing, in Addition to Those Heretofore Published, Numberous Sermons, Now First Printed from the Original Manuscript; an Appendix, on What Christ is Made to Believers, in Forty Real Benefits

Matthew Henry was a prominent 18th-century nonconformist minister, best known for his exhaustive biblical commentaries. This collection of his miscellaneous works was compiled posthumously to preserve sermons, essays, and treatises that were not included in his primary commentary series. By gathering these scattered manuscripts, editors sought to provide a comprehensive view of Henry's practical theology and pastoral heart, specifically highlighting his focus on personal piety and the lived experience of the believer.

The inclusion of the appendix on the 'Forty Real Benefits' reflects the era’s penchant for structured, didactic religious literature. Designed for both clergy and laypeople, the text serves as a specimen of Dissenting theology during the Enlightenment period. The work was received as a valuable resource for theological students and parishioners who favored Henry’s clear, accessible style of exposition, solidifying his reputation as one of the most influential expositors in English history.
