The Vassarion

The Vassarion is a long-standing tradition at Vassar College, functioning as the institution's primary yearbook. Conceived to serve as a comprehensive historical record of student life, academic achievements, and campus culture, the publication emerged from the college's desire to archive the transient experiences of its undergraduate cohorts. Each volume is meticulously curated by a rotating student editorial board, reflecting the evolving aesthetic sensibilities and social priorities of the era in which it was produced.

The design of these volumes often mirrors the graphic design trends and archival practices of their specific publication year, ranging from classical typography to modern, minimalist layouts. These editions are widely valued by researchers and alumni for their detailed documentation of student organizations, architectural shifts on the Poughkeepsie campus, and the changing demographics of the student body. As a result, the Vassarion serves as a primary source for understanding the shifting identity of the college throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
