The Warlord of Mars Illustrated

The Warlord of Mars is the third novel in Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom series, originally serialized in All-Story Magazine in 1913 before its initial book publication in 1919. The narrative continues the adventures of John Carter, a Virginian veteran of the American Civil War who finds himself transported to Mars, a dying world of feudal city-states and exotic creatures. This specific illustrated edition serves as a modern revival of the pulp adventure aesthetic that defined early 20th-century science fiction.

As an illustrated volume, this edition seeks to honor the legacy of the original pulp artists, such as Frank Schoonover and J. Allen St. John, who were instrumental in shaping the visual identity of Barsoom. By combining Burroughs' foundational prose with contemporary illustrative interpretation, the publication aims to capture the high-stakes swashbuckling atmosphere that established the Barsoom series as a primary influence on later space opera narratives, including Flash Gordon and Star Wars.
