The Works of Benjamin Disraeli, Earl of Beaconsfield, Embracing Novels, Romances, Plays, Poems, Biography, Short Stories and Great Speeches: Lothair. The letters of Benjamin Disraeli to his sister, 1832-1852

This volume is part of the expansive 'The Works of Benjamin Disraeli' collection, an edition published in the early 20th century to memorialize the political and literary career of the former British Prime Minister. The collection was designed to consolidate his diverse output, ranging from his satirical and political novels like Lothair to his intimate personal correspondence, providing a comprehensive retrospective for scholars and bibliophiles of the Victorian era.

The editorial intention behind this series was to bridge the gap between Disraeli’s public persona as a statesman and his private life as an author and letter-writer. By grouping his high-society novels with his personal letters to his sister, the publishers sought to paint a humanizing portrait of a complex historical figure. While Disraeli’s writing style was often criticized for being overly flamboyant or melodramatic, these collected editions became standard library staples, valued primarily for their historical insight and the stylistic window they provided into 19th-century political life.
