The Works of Benjamin Disraeli, Earl of Beaconsfield, Embracing Novels, Romances, Plays, Poems, Biography, Short Stories and Great Speeches: Vivian Grey

This volume is part of the comprehensive collected works of Benjamin Disraeli, the prominent 19th-century British statesman and novelist who served twice as Prime Minister. The collection was curated to gather his diverse literary output—spanning political novels, romances, and oratorical masterpieces—into a single, enduring library set intended for the Victorian reading public. These editions were designed to canonize Disraeli’s contribution to English letters, framing his fiction as an essential companion to his political career.

The specific novel Vivian Grey, included in this set, was originally published anonymously in 1826 when Disraeli was only twenty-two years old. It gained notoriety for its sharp, satirical portrayal of London high society and political maneuvering, establishing Disraeli as a provocative and ambitious voice. The design of these collected editions typically favored an authoritative, formal aesthetic, aimed at scholars and dedicated bibliophiles seeking to preserve the complete intellectual legacy of a man who rose from literary obscurity to the heights of the British government.
