The Works Of Charles Dickens In Thirty-four [i.e. Thirty-eight] Volumes, Volume 31

This volume is part of a comprehensive collection of Charles Dickens's works, a series published historically to bring the complete output of the Victorian novelist to a wider reading audience. These sets were designed to serve as definitive, uniform editions for libraries and home studies, reflecting the immense cultural impact Dickens held during his lifetime and throughout the twentieth century.

The editorial and design choices in these sets generally aimed for a balance of readability and aesthetic gravitas, often utilizing established typography and traditional binding styles to evoke the era of the initial serial publications. While the series title mentions thirty-four volumes, it often expanded to thirty-eight to include later discoveries and supplementary writings, ensuring that the legacy of works like David Copperfield and Great Expectations remained accessible in a consistent, scholarly format.
