The Works of Gilbert Parker, Volume 22

The Works of Gilbert Parker were released as a comprehensive imperial edition in the early 20th century, specifically designed to capitalize on the author's status as a celebrated Canadian-British novelist during the Edwardian era. This specific volume serves as part of a uniform set intended for the libraries of the affluent, reflecting the taste for collected literary works that defined the decorative standards of the period's domestic spaces.

The physical design of this volume adheres to the typical aesthetic of Scribner’s prestige publications of the time, characterized by high-quality paper and durable binding meant to convey a sense of permanence and intellectual weight. While individual volumes were received as reliable additions to the gentleman's library, the collection as a whole is now primarily studied for its representation of late colonial-era literary ambitions and the marketing of Canadian identity to a global, English-speaking audience.
