The Works of Gilbert Parker Volume 2

The Works of Gilbert Parker were originally published as a multi-volume collected edition in the early 20th century, reflecting the peak of the author’s popularity as a Canadian-British novelist. Sir Gilbert Parker was widely celebrated during his lifetime for his romantic historical fiction, particularly his tales set in the Canadian North, which captured the public imagination in both the United Kingdom and North America. This particular volume belongs to a definitive library edition intended to preserve his literary contributions for the Edwardian reading public.

The design of these volumes often adhered to the formal, elegant standards of the era’s high-end publishing houses, such as Charles Scribner’s Sons, who frequently issued such sets in durable, decorative bindings. These editions were curated to reflect the prestige of the author, who was a prominent political figure and a member of the British Parliament. The aesthetic was characterized by a scholarly, restrained appearance that prioritized longevity and readability, ensuring that the works remained a staple of personal libraries and institutional collections long after their initial release.
