The World for Two, Two for the World

The World for Two, Two for the World, known in Japanese as Futari de Hitori, is a manga series created by the artist Noboru Rokuda. Serialized during the late 1980s, the work reflects Rokuda's characteristic focus on human resilience and character-driven drama. Emerging during a period of significant growth in the manga industry, the series was produced to explore the complexities of personal identity and interpersonal connection, themes that permeated much of the author's body of work during this prolific decade.

Noboru Rokuda is widely recognized for his distinctively gritty and emotive illustration style, having previously achieved significant success with titles such as Dash Kappei. In designing this particular series, he aimed to move beyond the tropes of typical shonen narratives, opting instead for a more grounded, melancholic aesthetic. While the title did not reach the widespread mainstream dominance of some of his earlier sports-centric works, it remains a respected entry in his bibliography, appreciated by collectors for its intimate storytelling and the raw, expressive quality of Rokuda’s linework.
