Where it came from
Days of Joy, known in Japan as Yorokobi no Jikan, was created by the manga artist Noboru Rokuda. Rokuda is perhaps best known for his long-running racing manga Dash Kappei, but this particular volume reflects his transition toward more grounded, character-driven storytelling. The series emerged during a period of prolific output for Rokuda, capturing a distinct visual aesthetic common in late 20th-century seinen manga, characterized by expressive line work and an emphasis on the quiet, often melancholic moments of everyday life.
The design and narrative approach of the volume reflect Rokuda's characteristic focus on human emotion and the subtle complexities of his subjects. By centering the work on the theme of fleeting joy, Rokuda sought to explore the interplay between transient experiences and personal growth. Upon its release, the work was noted for its departure from the high-octane energy of his earlier sports-centric titles, gaining appreciation among readers who favored his evolving artistic versatility and his ability to construct poignant, self-contained narratives within the manga format.
