The Writings of Henry David Thoreau: With Bibliographical Introductions and Full Indexes : in Ten (really 11) Volumes

This collection, often referred to as the Walden Edition, was published in 1906 by Houghton Mifflin to commemorate the centenary of Henry David Thoreau's birth. It stands as the definitive early twentieth-century attempt to gather Thoreau's complete literary output, including previously unpublished journal entries that significantly altered the public perception of his work beyond his most famous titles like Walden and Civil Disobedience.

The set was meticulously edited by Bradford Torrey and Francis H. Allen, who were dedicated to capturing the author's nuanced voice through his extensive private writings. Designed with a formal, scholarly aesthetic consistent with the high-quality publishing standards of the era, the volumes were intended for the serious bibliophile and remain a foundational resource for scholars studying the Transcendentalist movement and American nature writing.
