Where it came from
To the Glory of God: The History of Pleasant Union Baptist Church, 1942-1976 was authored by Shelby Dorsey as a commemorative record documenting the institutional growth and community impact of the Pleasant Union Baptist Church. Published in the late 1970s, the volume serves as a local historical account, preserving the legacy of the congregation during a transformative period in American religious and social life.
The text functions primarily as an archival resource for members of the church and regional historians. By detailing the leadership, organizational milestones, and spiritual mission of the church across three decades, Dorsey sought to provide an enduring narrative for future generations. As a niche historical work, its design and distribution were centered on institutional documentation rather than commercial publication, reflecting the importance of chronicling grassroots community histories.
