Where it came from
The Transformers GT: Mission GT-R volume is a collaborative project released in 2013, bridging the worlds of high-performance automotive culture and the Transformers franchise. Published by Takara Tomy in Japan, this tie-in manga was created to support the Transformers GT toy line, a specialized series featuring real-world Nissan GT-R vehicles that transform into Autobots. The project was conceived as a promotional effort to celebrate the partnership between Nissan and the Transformers brand, targeting both automotive enthusiasts and toy collectors.
The narrative and illustrations were handled by Tsushima Naoto, a mangaka well-regarded for his work on various Transformers manga titles. Tsushima was tasked with weaving a high-octane narrative that integrated the sleek aesthetic of the Nissan GT-R into the established Transformers lore. The work was received primarily as a niche collector's piece, praised by the fan community for its dynamic depiction of the characters and its commitment to the technical specifications of the featured vehicles.
