Where it came from
Tsugi Hagi Nightmare is a work within the broader category of independent manga, emerging from the experimental dōjinshi circles that allow creators like Hori to explore darker, unconventional narratives. These volumes are typically produced in limited runs, reflecting a tradition of creator-led publishing that prioritizes artistic vision over mass-market commercial requirements.
The design of the series centers on the 'tsugi hagi' concept, which translates to 'patchwork' or 'stitched together.' Hori utilizes this aesthetic to create a fragmented, unsettling visual experience that mirrors the psychological instability of the characters. The work is widely regarded by genre enthusiasts for its commitment to a gritty, raw artistic style that defies the polished conventions of mainstream serializations.
