Where it came from
Uchuu Kyoudai, known in English as Space Brothers, began serialization in 2007, authored by Chuuya Koyama. The series follows the lives of two brothers, Mutta and Hibito Nanba, as they pursue their respective dreams of becoming astronauts. The digital colored edition was released to provide a modern, visually immersive experience for readers, breathing new life into Koyama’s meticulously researched depictions of JAXA and NASA operations.
The design of the digital colorization aims to emphasize the vast, atmospheric beauty of space while maintaining the emotional warmth of the character interactions. By applying a consistent and thoughtful color palette, the digital volumes enhance the technical details of the spacecraft and the grounded, human-centric narrative that made the original monochrome work a critical and commercial success, celebrated for its realistic portrayal of the aerospace industry.
