Uchuu o Kakeru Yodaka

Uchuu o Kakeru Yodaka, known in English as Switched, was created by mangaka Shiki Kawabata and serialized in the manga magazine Bessatsu Margaret between 2014 and 2015. The story centers on a high school student whose life is upended when a classmate commits suicide in front of her, triggering a body-swapping phenomenon that forces the protagonist to confront the complexities of identity, perception, and inner beauty. The series was designed to explore the psychological weight of social standing and physical appearance among adolescents, presenting a dramatic narrative that moves beyond typical high school tropes.

Upon its release, the manga was well-received for its tight pacing and emotional stakes, leading to its eventual conclusion in three compiled volumes. Kawabata's art style is characterized by expressive character designs that effectively convey the internal turmoil of characters trapped in bodies that do not match their own. The work gained significant mainstream visibility after it was adapted into a live-action series for Netflix in 2018, which helped introduce the original manga to a broader international audience interested in psychological character studies.
