Where it came from
The Uebersicht der Bestände an Zeitschriften in den Hauptbüchersammlungen der höheren Schulen in Pommern was compiled by Ludwig Streit in the late 19th century. This bibliographical work was commissioned to provide a comprehensive survey of the periodical holdings within the academic libraries of secondary schools throughout the Prussian province of Pomerania. It reflects the rigorous administrative and educational standards of the period, serving as a centralized record to assist educators and scholars in locating specialized research materials across the regional school network.
Designed as a functional reference tool, the volume emphasizes systematic categorization and clarity of data. The document was intended for institutional use rather than public distribution, functioning as a vital administrative instrument for librarians and school inspectors tasked with overseeing the intellectual resources of the Pomeranian higher education system. Its design, characterized by precise indexing and formal notation, highlights the era's commitment to bureaucratic efficiency and the systematic organization of German academic information.
