Veilingcatalogus, boeken van Johannes Willem de Crane, 11 tot 21 september 1843

This auction catalog was compiled by the historian and archivist W. Eekhoff in Leeuwarden to document the extensive library of Johannes Willem de Crane. Published in 1843, the volume served as a necessary guide for the public auction held from September 11 to 21, providing potential bidders with an itemized record of the scholarly collection that had been amassed by the late owner during his lifetime.

The catalog reflects the typical practices of nineteenth-century bibliographic documentation, prioritizing clarity for collectors and academics of the era. Eekhoff, who was a prominent figure in the cultural life of Friesland, maintained a methodical approach to cataloging, which allows historians today to understand the intellectual interests of individuals like de Crane. The document remains a primary source for provenance research, illustrating the dispersal of private libraries during the mid-1800s.
