Wallace's Year-Book of Trotting and Pacing in ...; Volume 1

Wallace's Year-Book of Trotting and Pacing, inaugurated with its first volume, was compiled by John Hankins Wallace in the late 19th century to address the growing need for a systematic, standardized registry in American harness racing. During an era when the sport of trotting was gaining immense popularity, Wallace sought to bring order to the often chaotic and inconsistent records of horse breeding and performance. His work became a foundational text for the industry, establishing the standards that defined the 'American Trotting Register.'

The design and objective of the Year-Book were rooted in Wallace's commitment to statistical accuracy and pedigree verification. By meticulously categorizing performance times and lineage, he provided breeders and owners with an essential reference tool that curtailed fraudulent claims and elevated the sport to a more professional level. The publication was widely regarded as the definitive authority in the field for decades, cementing Wallace's legacy as the architect of modern standards in trotting and pacing records.
