Wallace's Year-Book of Trotting and Pacing in ..., Volume 8

Wallace's Year-Book of Trotting and Pacing was established in the late 19th century by John Hankins Wallace to provide an authoritative, centralized registry for American harness racing performance records. Volume 8, published during the series' formative years, served as a vital reference for breeders and owners seeking to document the pedigrees and speed records of horses competing across the country. It emerged during a golden era of American trotting, acting as the primary instrument for maintaining the integrity and standardization of the sport's fast-evolving bloodlines.

The publication was designed as a systematic ledger, prioritizing clarity and data density to accommodate thousands of racing entries. The American Trotting Register Association managed the compilation process, focusing on rigorous documentation rather than aesthetic embellishment. While it was essentially a technical manual, the work received high esteem within the equine community for its role in professionalizing the industry, becoming an essential tool for tracking the influence of sires and dams on the development of the modern Standardbred breed.
