Wāq Wāq was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump between 2004 and 2005. The manga was created by Ryu Fujisaki, who sought to blend traditional shonen adventure tropes with a distinct, post-apocalyptic setting centered on the concept of human-machine hybrids known as Machinas. The story follows a young protagonist named Souma, who inhabits a world where the natural environment has been replaced by the sprawling, metallic ruins of the Wāq Wāq civilization. While the series was highly anticipated due to Fujisaki’s reputation, it faced a shorter run compared to his previous works, ultimately being categorized as a cult favorite.
