Where it came from
Zassoukan no Juunintachi, written and illustrated by Eiki Eiki, emerged during the late 1990s as a notable example of the shonen-ai and comedic manga genres. Published in the context of a booming period for experimental character-driven storytelling, the work centers on the eccentric and often chaotic residents of a boarding house, utilizing Eiki's signature blend of sharp wit and expressive character designs.
The series is celebrated for its focus on lighthearted interpersonal dynamics rather than traditional dramatic arcs, reflecting the author's intent to create an accessible, humorous exploration of quirky personalities living in close quarters. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans of the genre for its distinct art style and its departure from the more melancholy tropes common in early boys' love media, establishing Eiki Eiki as a versatile and influential voice in contemporary manga.
