Where it came from
Zashisu is a manga series created by Morita Masanori, an artist widely recognized for his kinetic, gritty style and his ability to blend delinquent subculture with emotional narrative stakes. Published in the late 1990s following his major success with Rookies, Zashisu reflects a maturation in Morita’s artistic approach, focusing on tighter, more character-driven storytelling rather than the explosive action sequences that defined his earlier works.
The series was designed to explore the nuances of urban life and the internal conflicts of its protagonists, moving away from the high-octane sports settings of his previous hits. While it did not reach the same widespread mainstream saturation as his more famous titles, it remains a notable entry in his bibliography, valued by collectors for its polished aesthetic and the evolution of Morita's signature character designs which emphasize raw, human expression over stylistic exaggeration.
