Where it came from
The Pest Tube figure emerged as part of the Atomic series under the Lab Brats collection, a line characterized by its focus on stylized, subverted laboratory archetypes. Released during a period of rising interest in designer vinyl figures that prioritized an edgy, industrial aesthetic, the piece was conceptualized to reflect a satirical take on scientific experimentation, specifically focusing on the intersection of biological science and pop-art sensibilities.
The design of the Pest Tube leans heavily into the clean, clinical lines of modernist laboratory equipment, intentionally juxtaposed with the organic, somewhat grotesque imagery associated with its namesake. It was created to appeal to collectors of urban vinyl who favored conceptual storytelling over traditional character modeling, and it was generally well-received within the niche community for its bold departure from the softer, rounded features common to the genre at the time.
