Where it came from
The Buffalo card, cataloged as OP14-070 within The Azure Sea's Seven series, emerged during a mid-cycle expansion of the trading card game. It was developed to flesh out the aquatic-themed roster of the set, providing players with a robust mid-tier character option that could anchor defensive strategies. The design process focused on translating the terrestrial power of a buffalo into a nautical context, resulting in a character aesthetic that emphasizes armored scales and heavy, blunt-force utility.
The artwork for Buffalo was produced by the central design team at the studio, who aimed for a stark, high-contrast visual style to ensure readability on the table. Upon its release, the card was received as a reliable, if understated, staple for deck-building. While it did not reach the status of a rare chase card, it is consistently recognized by collectors for its clear, clean lines and its thematic consistency within the broader, lore-heavy narrative of the Azure Sea collection.
