Where it came from
The Five Elders alternate art card from the Carrying On His Will expansion set draws from the One Piece trading card game, which debuted in 2022 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Eiichiro Oda's long-running manga series. This specific card features the highest-ranking figures of the World Government, characters shrouded in mystery and immense authority within the series lore. The set was designed to reflect pivotal moments and figures from the Egghead arc, capturing the intense geopolitical shifts occurring in the narrative at that time.
The alternate art aesthetic for this set emphasizes a sophisticated, high-contrast visual style often favored by collectors for its departure from standard character portraiture. The illustration focuses on the foreboding silhouettes and iconic designs of the five men, utilizing the game’s signature card frame to enhance the sense of power. Upon its release, these alternate art variants were highly sought after due to their scarcity and the detailed, thematic art direction that sets them apart from the base rarity versions found in the main set.
