Where it came from
The Gion card, designated OP06-044, was released as part of the pre-release promotional set for the Wings of the Captain expansion of the One Piece Card Game. These cards are distributed exclusively to participants of official pre-release events, serving as a commemorative artifact that allows players to experience the mechanics of the new set ahead of its wide retail launch. The card features the character Gion, known in the source material as the Vice Admiral Momousagi, reflecting the set's focus on the naval forces and character archetypes prominent within the series' recent narrative arcs.
The design of this specific card adheres to the high-contrast, kinetic aesthetic established by Bandai for the One Piece Card Game, utilizing official manga and anime art assets to maintain visual continuity. As a character card within the Wings of the Captain block, its design intent is to provide tactical utility for players using specialized naval or color-specific decks. Upon its release, the card was received primarily as a functional utility piece by the competitive community, valued for its strategic application in the trading card game's evolving meta rather than purely as a display piece.
