Giolla

The Giolla card, indexed as OP14-064, is a central character release from the Azure Sea's Seven expansion set. Developed to expand the narrative depth of the Azure Sea series, this character was designed to represent the intersection of maritime folklore and tactical gameplay. The set was conceived as a thematic pivot toward high-seas adventure, tasking the creative team with balancing intricate, water-inspired aesthetic motifs with the mechanical requirements of the overarching card game ecosystem.

Illustrative duties for the set were handled by a collective of artists focused on fluid, kinetic character design, with Giolla serving as a focal point for the set's color palette of deep indigos and bioluminescent accents. Upon its release, the card was received as a nuanced addition to the game's competitive scene, praised primarily by collectors for its technical art style. It remains a representative example of the mid-lifecycle design language prevalent in the Azure Sea's Seven era, characterized by detailed background environmental storytelling.
