Where it came from
Released in 2022 as part of the Paramount War expansion (OP-02) for the One Piece Card Game, this card depicts the character Helmeppo following his character development within the series. Produced by Bandai, the set was designed to capture the intensity of the Marineford arc, bringing pivotal moments and characters from the source material into a strategic tabletop format. The illustration emphasizes his updated appearance and role as a dedicated Marine officer, aligning with the visual aesthetic established for the set’s character roster.
The design of the card emphasizes its utility within the game's mechanics, featuring artwork that highlights Helmeppo's growth from a spoiled subordinate into a disciplined, if still unconventional, figure. As a common rarity card, it was crafted to provide depth to the Navy-themed decks favored by players focusing on control-based strategies. It received attention from the player base primarily for its functional synergy within the Black color deck archetype, which emphasizes cost reduction mechanics to manipulate the board state.
