Where it came from
The Monkey D. Luffy (OP13-118) card was released as part of the 'Carrying On His Will' set for the One Piece Card Game, which debuted in 2024. This expansion is designed to celebrate iconic moments and character evolutions from the long-running manga and anime series by Eiichiro Oda, with the card specifically drawing from the climactic narrative arcs where Luffy embodies his full potential. The set was produced to align with the game's ongoing global expansion, targeting both competitive players seeking powerful mechanics and collectors interested in high-rarity artistic representations of the series' protagonist.
The design of this parallel version emphasizes artistic flair, utilizing premium foiling techniques and distinct illustrations that diverge from the standard card art found in the set. Illustrators for the One Piece Card Game often collaborate closely with the franchise's creative team to ensure the aesthetic maintains the high-energy, vibrant spirit associated with the series. Upon release, parallel cards like this one were met with significant enthusiasm from the collecting community, largely due to the character's immense popularity and the scarcity associated with the higher-tier parallel card variants.
