Where it came from
The Paper Art Afterimage card, numbered OP13-115, was released as part of the Carrying On His Will set for the One Piece Card Game. This set draws its thematic inspiration from the series' most poignant moments of legacy and succession, specifically highlighting the transfer of resolve and power between generations of characters. The card functions as an event card, serving as a tactical representation of the phantom-like projections or lingering memories that characters leave behind on the battlefield.
The design of the card utilizes the established aesthetic language of the Trading Card Game, which emphasizes high-contrast illustrations and dynamic action poses that reflect the intensity of the source material. By focusing on the concept of an afterimage, the visual direction prioritizes fluid, translucent effects that contrast with the more solid, character-focused cards in the set. The card was met with interest by players for its utility in gameplay, specifically for its ability to manipulate the board state through evasion and surprise tactics.
