Where it came from
The Paper Art Afterimage event card was released as part of the Carrying On His Will set, which commemorated the third anniversary of the One Piece Card Game. This release was specifically designed to celebrate the milestone by highlighting iconic emotional moments from the series, utilizing a distinct, stylized paper-cut aesthetic that differs from the standard character-focused card art found in typical boosters.
The design team focused on creating a visual shorthand for memory and legacy, utilizing the paper art medium to reflect the ephemeral nature of the characters being honored. Upon release, the set was received warmly by collectors for its departure from traditional digital illustrations, with the Afterimage card specifically praised for its minimalist approach to depicting central narrative themes within the One Piece universe.
