Where it came from
The Portgas D. Ace Super Alternate Art card (OP13-119) was released as part of the Carrying On His Will expansion for the One Piece Card Game. This set was designed to focus on emotional narrative arcs and iconic character relationships, marking a significant entry in the game's evolving meta. The card captures a poignant moment from the series, intended to resonate with fans of the Marineford arc by highlighting the legacy and spirit of the character.
The artistic direction for this card emphasizes a dynamic, high-contrast illustration style characteristic of the game's premium alternate art tiers. By utilizing specialized foiling techniques and unique framing, the designers sought to elevate the card as a centerpiece for collectors. Upon its release, it was received favorably by both competitive players for its utility in red-based decks and collectors who prioritize the aesthetic depiction of key narrative figures from Eiichiro Oda’s source material.
