Where it came from
The Shanks (OP09-004) character card was released as part of the 'Emperors in the New World' expansion for the One Piece Card Game. This set focuses on the high-stakes power dynamics of the Yonko, drawing inspiration from the climax of the Wano Country Arc and the subsequent revelations in the manga. The card represents Shanks in his role as a dominant, enigmatic force within the series, designed to capture his status as one of the most formidable pirates currently active in the New World.
The artwork for this card features the iconic wanted poster aesthetic that has served as a central visual motif throughout Eiichiro Oda's series since its inception. By stripping away the action-oriented battle art common in the game and focusing on the official government-issued bounty portrait, the design highlights the character's terrifying notoriety and the weight of his multi-billion berry bounty. It was received by the player community as both a thematic centerpiece for Red-attribute decks and a sought-after collectible due to its clean, minimalist framing of a central narrative figure.
