Where it came from
The Shanks (OP09-004) card from the Emperors in the New World set represents a high-rarity inclusion within the One Piece Card Game, a title produced by Bandai that launched in 2022 to commemorate the long-running manga and anime franchise. The game was designed to blend strategic card mechanics with iconic imagery from Eiichiro Oda's source material, and this specific card serves as a centerpiece for the ninth booster expansion, which focuses on the powerful pirate captains governing the Grand Line.
The alternate art variant of this card is notable for its premium foil treatment and specific aesthetic direction, typically handled by professional illustrators contracted by Bandai to provide a more cinematic, collector-focused visual style than standard character cards. These cards are designed to appeal to both competitive players and long-term fans of the series, drawing influence from key moments in the narrative where Shanks displays his intimidating presence and mastery of Haki.
