Where it came from
The Alolan Exeggutor card, numbered 2a/131, was released as part of the Forbidden Light expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game in May 2018. This set was based on the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon video games, introducing the unique regional variant of the classic Pokémon Exeggutor, which was originally reimagined as a Grass and Dragon-type creature with an elongated neck. The design aesthetic for this card reflects the Alola region's tropical theme, drawing on the whimsical and exaggerated proportions popularized in the generation seven core series games.
The artwork for this specific card was commissioned to highlight the towering scale of the Alolan variant, emphasizing its role as both an iconic piece of island folklore and a tactical grass-type asset. Upon release, the card was received as a standard addition to the Forbidden Light set, serving as a functional piece for collectors aiming to complete their expansion sets. Like many cards from this era, its design was meant to bridge the gap between the competitive meta of the trading card game and the visual evolution of the series' creature designs.
