Where it came from
Aurorus first appeared in the Pokémon Trading Card Game as part of the Forbidden Light expansion, released internationally in May 2018. This set was centered around the theme of the legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal, drawing significant inspiration from the Kalos region introduced in the sixth generation of video games. As a Water-type Pokémon, the card features the distinct icy aesthetic associated with the character's origins as a fossil Pokémon resurrected from an Amaura.
The artwork for this specific card, numbered 28/131, is credited to the illustrator Mizue. Known for her soft, ethereal style, Mizue captured the character in a shimmering, holo-rare format that emphasizes the crystalline structures atop its head. The card was designed to function within the set's mechanics, highlighting the defensive capabilities of the character. It was generally well-received by players and collectors who appreciated the return of Fossil-derived Pokémon to the competitive landscape during this era of the game.
