Beldum

Released in May 2013 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's Black & White—Plasma Freeze expansion, this Beldum card reflects the thematic focus on Team Plasma's influence within the Unova region. The set introduced the Plasma mechanic, which featured cards with distinct blue borders and artwork depicting the metallic, engineered aesthetic associated with the organization. It was designed to provide players with a basic stage-one Pokémon that could evolve into Metang and Metagross, adhering to the standard power-scaling for common-rarity cards intended for deck-building utility.

The artwork for this card was rendered by illustrator 5ban Graphics, a design collective frequently commissioned by The Pokémon Company. Their approach focused on clean, digital precision to highlight the robotic nature of the Steel-type Pokémon, emphasizing its singular eye and sturdy, magnetic form. While common cards like this Beldum served primarily as foundational building blocks for competitive decks during the Black & White era, the set itself was well-regarded by collectors for its introduction of the Team Plasma aesthetic and the inclusion of high-value Pokémon-EX cards.
