Where it came from
Released in May 2013 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's Black & White—Plasma Freeze expansion, this card captures the transition of the Bisharp character into the Team Plasma aesthetic. The set focused on the narrative of the villainous Team Plasma organization attempting to conquer the Unova region, featuring cards with distinctive blue-themed borders and the signature 'Plasma' logo. This iteration of Bisharp was designed to reflect the technological and cold, metallic nature of the faction's augmented Pokémon.
The illustration was rendered by artist Midori Harada, a long-time contributor to the Pokémon TCG known for her ability to balance action-oriented poses with the distinct creature designs of the series. Her depiction of Bisharp emphasizes its blade-like appendages and stoic posture, aligning with the card's function as a Darkness-type attacker. Upon release, the card was regarded as a standard rare, serving as a functional piece for players building Team Plasma-themed decks rather than a primary chase card for collectors.
