Provenance

Where it came from

Bisharp (72/108) was released in 2012 as part of the Dark Explorers expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This set was notable for its heavy focus on Darkness-type Pokémon and the introduction of the powerful Darkrai-EX, marking a shift in the competitive landscape. The card reflects the themes of the Unova region, where the Sword Blade Pokémon was first introduced as a tactical, blade-wielding creature.

The artwork for this card was provided by 5ban Graphics, a creative team frequently employed by The Pokémon Company to produce high-definition, 3D-rendered illustrations for the TCG. By utilizing this digital modeling approach, the designers aimed to highlight the sharp, metallic edges of Bisharp’s design and its intimidating, knight-like stature, fitting the set’s aggressive aesthetic and the character's role as a cold, calculated fighter.
