Where it came from
The Blastoise card numbered 137/135 from the Plasma Storm expansion was released in February 2013 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's Black & White series. This set focused on the Team Plasma narrative, which introduced cards featuring unique silver-bordered designs to distinguish members of the organization. As a secret rare, this card serves as a high-tier chase item, utilizing the textured holofoil finish that became a hallmark of the era's premium secret rare cards.
The artwork for this card was created by 5ban Graphics, a design collective frequently employed by The Pokémon Company during this period to create modern, computer-generated interpretations of classic characters. The design emphasizes the 'Shiny' variant of Blastoise, featuring the character's distinct light-blue and purple coloration. Within the competitive landscape of the time, the card was highly sought after not only for its aesthetic rarity but also for its 'Deluge' Ability, which allowed players to accelerate Water-type Energy cards into play.
