Where it came from
Released in 2021 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's 25th Anniversary 'Celebrations' set, this card serves as a direct reprint of the iconic Base Set Charizard originally released in 1999. The 'Classic Collection' subset was designed to pay homage to the game's history by reissuing some of the most sought-after cards from the hobby's early years, featuring the original holographic patterns and the classic Ken Sugimori artwork that defined the aesthetic of the first generation of Pokémon.
The decision to include this specific card was a celebratory nod to its legendary status within the collecting community, where the original 1999 printing remains one of the most recognizable and valuable cards in existence. By retaining the original design while adding a 25th-anniversary stamp to differentiate it from the vintage release, the designers aimed to provide fans with a high-quality reproduction that evokes the nostalgia of the late 90s while maintaining the integrity of the original card's visual identity.
