Dangerous Energy

Dangerous Energy was released as part of the Ancient Origins expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which debuted in August 2015. As a special energy card, it was designed to provide colorless energy while adding a tactical risk-reward mechanic to gameplay; when attached to a Pokémon, it allows that Pokémon to inflict damage on an opponent, but simultaneously places damage counters on the user. This reflected the set's broader theme of powerful, ancient-inspired mechanics that often demanded a physical toll from the player's own team.

The card features artwork by 5ban Graphics, a creative team frequently employed by The Pokémon Company to produce sleek, digitally rendered illustrations for the trading card game. Their work on this card leans into a sharp, metallic aesthetic that emphasizes the volatile nature of the energy type. Upon its release, the card was received as a niche but intriguing tool for deck archetypes that rely on chip damage or specific card synergies, remaining a staple of the Ancient Origins set's unconventional design philosophy.
